When transporting meat products from your store to customers, temperature-controlled vans are incredibly important. Additionally, in order to meet food safety standards; a bespoke approach is required to create the perfect temperature-controlled van for the job.

We were approached by a butcher who required a temperature-controlled box van with meat rails to transport carcasses.

At Rex Limited, we listened to all of Jack’s requirements to make sure that we could build the perfect bespoke temperature controlled box van that would meet his specification.

Jack brought the chassis to us where we then built a refrigerated box that would accommodate his needs. One of the most important specifications of the conversion was the meat rails. It was clear from the outset that the roof would need to be adapted in the build process. The roof needed to be reinforced to take the weight of the rails and the carcasses that will hang from them.

Other specifications required in order to meet food hygiene specifications included chequer plate fitted to the walls, floors and rear doors. It was also important to include a drain hole to provide quick drainage, as the van needed to be cleaned on a regular basis.

Additional features included in this temperature-controlled van included a steel framed LED light, external lighting and pull-out steps for safe handling of the carcasses. The van was then fitted with steel framework and a Twin Fan Metal Evap GAH refrigeration unit.

The butcher, Jack, was incredibly excited to take delivery of his new temperature-controlled box van.
